International tourism in Mexico is growing, with more than US$6 billion earned in the first two months of 2025

Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora reported that in the first two months of the year, foreign currency earnings from international visitors topped US$6.60 billion, 4.5 percent more than in the same period of 2024.

According to the results of the International Traveler Surveys published by the National Statistics Institute (INEGI), the figure also represents a 45.9 percent increase compared to 2019.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) emphasized that the growth of tourism strengthens the national economy and boosts the number of service jobs generated by this sector, which in turn improves the quality of life of the host communities.

She added that during January-February 2025, about 7.7 million international tourists entered the country, 8.2 percent more than in the same period of 2024 and 11.8 percent above the corresponding 2019 numbers.
In the same period, 15.4 million international visitors arrived in the country, a 15 percent increase compared to 2024.

Rodríguez also reported that foreign currency income from international tourists reached almost US$6.08 billion in the first two months of 2025, 2.8 percent and 46.4 percent more than in 2024 and 2019, respectively.

During January and February 2025, some 4.2 million tourists arrived by air, spending an average of US$1,316, a 4.4 percent increase over 2024 and 22.5 percent more than in 2019.

In addition, during the same period, 2.2 million cruise passengers arrived at the country’s different ports, 11.8 percent more than in 2024 and 25.6 percent above 2019 levels.

In January and February 2025, foreign exchange income from cruise ship passengers reached US$191.5 million, 14.5 and 57.4 percent more than in the same period in 2024 and 2019, respectively.
