* “It is a good sign that we are moving forward,” she said.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported there is a desire on the part of the U.S. and Mexican governments to reach better agreements on trade issues. She made the comment following her telephone call this morning with President Donald Trump.
“It was a very good conversation and although there is no specific agreement, what’s important is that we’re working on it and there is a desire on the part of the U.S. Government and our government to reach better trade agreements,” she explained.
Sheinbaum said the U.S. President is interested in reducing the deficit, while the Mexican Government is seeking better conditions on issues such as steel, aluminum, and the automotive industry.
She reported that the Mexican Finance and Economy ministries, as well as the U.S. Treasury and Commerce departments will continue to work on these issues.
“It is a good sign that we are still moving forward, still strengthening the treaty and the issues that interest us and obviously those that interest them,” Sheinbaum added.
