Over 6.1 Million Foreign Tourists Arrive in Mexico by Air in the First Quarter of 2025

Mexico received more than 6.12 million foreign tourists who entered the country by air during the first quarter of the year, a 3.5 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora explained that according to the Unit for Migration Policy, Registration, and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior, the number of visitors who arrived in Mexico in the first three months of the year was 16.6 percent above 2019, when almost 5.25 million tourists entered the country.

The main countries of origin of the foreign tourists who arrived in Mexico by air during the first quarter of 2025 continues to be the United States, Canada, and Argentina, which together accounted for almost 5.19 million visitors, 7.4 percent more than in 2024. This figure is also 28.6 percent higher than the almost 4.04 million tourists who arrived in 2019, Rodríguez Zamora noted.

The head of Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) specified that from January to March 2025, arrivals by air by U.S. residents reached almost 3.86 million, 5.1 percent more than the same period in 2024 and 34.9 percent higher than the 2.59 million tourists registered in 2019.

She also reported that air arrivals of tourists residing in Canada totaled almost 1.22 million, 13 percent higher than in 2024 and 15.3 percent more than the almost 1.06 million registered in 2019.

Rodríguez Zamora said that these figures reaffirm the importance of the economic relationship between Mexico, the United States, and Canada, as well as the need to strengthen and maintain tourism ties within the North American region.

She recalled that, with the aim of continuing collaborative efforts to promote Mexico in the United States, a cultural, artistic, artisanal, and culinary event entitled “A Window into Mexico in San Diego” was successfully held at Liberty Station, as part of the 2025 Tianguis Turístico fair.

She also invited the public to visit the first tourism office located in the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego, where a display showcases the richness of the state of Oaxaca, and information is provided to Californians about Mexico’s wide range of transportation, travel, lodging, dining, and other national products and services.

Lastly, she indicated that 114,719 tourists came from Argentina, a 32.5 percent increase compared to 2024, when 86,586 Argentine tourists entered the country.
