Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed that 222 Mexicans have been detained in the United States since the start of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Los Angeles and the subsequent protests.
During the “Mañanera del Pueblo” morning presidential press conference, Sheinbaum emphasized that the support system for nationals in the various Mexican consulates across the United States has been strengthened.
To ensure “both the information about what needs to be done, as well as all the mechanisms that help us assist all Mexican nationals not only in California but in other parts of the United States, we are reinforcing the consulates and consular support for everyone who has been detained,” she said.
Sheinbaum also noted that among other support mechanisms for migrants is the “Mexico Embraces You” program, which assists all those arriving in Mexico from the United States.
The Paisano program seeks “to help them find employment, provide them with a migrant bank card, and assist them with all the social programs available to them, including registration with the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute),” the President added.
In addition, she announced that the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) will hold a conference today to further discuss the strengthening of the support system at consulates for Mexican nationals.
