President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her disagreement with Donald Trump’s tax plan, just approved by the US Congress, which includes the construction of migrant detention centers.
“We do not agree with actions that are discriminatory and persecute migrants, and this treatment of them as if they were criminals will cause great harm to the U.S. economy,” she said.
During her morning press conference, the President recalled that Mexicans residing in the United States have been working in that country for many years and they are good people who contribute considerably to both economies.
“Migration must be fundamentally addressed with development cooperation. This treatment is not good, from a humanistic or economic perspective,” she said.
Sheinbaum recalled that a few weeks ago Trump had to abandon his policy against migrant workers in the agricultural and hotel sectors, given that he received complaints from the business community about financial losses due to these measures.
“We will always defend our migrant brothers and sisters and we are strengthening the program Mexico Embraces You that we will present next week. We are strengthening the attention provided to our compatriots who mostly arrive in Tapachula or Villahermosa, maintaining the care centers on the northern border,” she concluded.
