The Mexican Ministry of Tourism reported that during the current summer vacation season, the General Directorate of Tourist Services Ángeles Verdes has provided free assistance to 60,500 tourists on the country’s main highways, offering mechanical support, guidance, and tourism information.
Sectur head Josefina Rodríguez Zamora reported that 76.8% of the services were for mechanical assistance, 18.5% for tourism information, and 4.8% for support in accidents, transfers, and emergencies. Reports indicate that the most common requests involved flat tires (18.8%), engine trouble (16.8%), overheating or failures in the cooling system (12.5%), requests for information on tourist sites (9.8%), and electrical issues (9.7%).
Nationwide Operation
Of the total services provided, 49,470 tourists were assisted directly on the road, 6,587 via the free number 078 and the Ángeles Verdes mobile app, and 4,443 at the Tourist Information Module located at Felipe Ángeles International Airport.
For this season, Ángeles Verdes deployed 723 operational staff and more than 300 vehicles, covering over 37,000 kilometers of highways and operating 24 hours a day seven days a week.
Tourism and Shared Prosperity
Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that this operation reflects President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s directive to strengthen tourism as a driver of “Shared Prosperity,” also benefiting communities that take part in serving visitors.
She also urged travelers to plan their routes, check their vehicles before departing, carry tools and warning devices, verify their car’s lighting system, and ensure proper installation of child safety seats.
