During the President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference on August 22, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, presented the race series “México Imparable” 2025-2026, a project that, she affirmed, will allow national and international participants “to get to know different states of the Mexican Republic.”

The athlete and leader of the project, Mirna Beatriz De la Cruz, explained that it seeks to fuse sports, cultural identity, socially aware tourism and social impact, and aims to consolidate itself as an annual race series that becomes a benchmark in the promotion of sports and social inclusion in Mexico.

She also noted that each event “celebrates the diversity of the country and connects with its roots by traversing emblematic areas.”

The confirmed dates are: Raíces de Agua in Palenque, Chiapas, on September 14; Raíces de Fuego in Mexico City, on December 7; Raíces de Tierra in Oaxaca, on March 22, 2026; and Raíces de Aire in Chihuahua, on June 7, 2026.

De la Cruz noted that México Imparable has three main objectives: to boost athletic talent, through economic and logistical support for Indigenous and low-income athletes; to promote inclusion, creating a participatory and representative space for everyone; and to awaken national pride, celebrating cultural diversity and recognizing the value of Indigenous roots.

She added that “the project will have a triple positive impact at the economic, social and cultural levels, since the races are designed to activate local economies, provide visibility to Indigenous peoples and promote purposeful tourism.” She added that registration for the event can be made at the website www.mexicoimparable.com.

The Rarámuri ultra-marathon runner María Lorena Ramírez Nahueachi invited Mexicans and foreigners to participate in this great project.

“I call on athletes from Mexico and abroad to participate in México Imparable, which promotes sports tourism and the greatness of our country, as well as Indigenous roots.”

Finally, Rodríguez noted that 10% of the total number of international tourists who visit Mexico do so to practice a sport, and that “the economic revenue from sports tourism in 2024 was $3.24 billion USD (60.4 billion pesos). It is expected that in 2025 it will be more than 353.7 million USD (1,000 million pesos) and that by the end of the year more than 100 events will be held.”
