Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) announced the launching of two international tourism promotion roadshows taking place in Chicago and Toronto, from August 25 to 28. The initiative aims to consolidate Mexico’s presence in its main source markets, which together account for more than 80% of foreign visitors arriving in the country.
Representing Tourism Minister Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Miguel Aguiñiga Rodríguez, head of the Innovation, Sustainability, and Tourism Professionalization Unit, is leading the Mexican delegation. Meetings will be held with the Consuls General of Mexico in Chicago and Toronto, Reyna Torres Mendivil and Porfirio Thierry Muñoz Ledo, respectively.
The agenda also includes dialogues with Mexican-American and Mexican-Canadian communities to reinforce cultural and economic ties. Key topics will focus on joint promotion of tourism, advancing priority projects, and preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In Chicago, high-value strategic partnerships will be established with companies such as Apple Leisure Group, American Airlines, Aeroméxico Chicago, United Airlines, and Delta Airlines. In Toronto, discussions will take place with representatives from Sunwing Vacation Group and Destination Toronto, among others. In addition, the state of Sinaloa will sign an agreement with Aeroméxico Canada to strengthen air connectivity.
Through these promotional tours, the Mexican Government seeks to attract more international visitors, generate economic benefits for local communities, and strengthen bilateral relations with its strategic North American partners.
“Roadshows are not only a window to showcase Mexico’s cultural, culinary, and natural diversity, but also a tool to boost economic development and the well-being of our people,” Sectur emphasized in its statement.
Mexico, a Growing Tourism Power
Sectur recalled that Mexico welcomed 45 million international tourists in 2024, a 7.4% increase compared to the previous year, ranking second in the Americas and fifth worldwide, according to UN Tourism.
In the first half of 2025, more than 7.3 million U.S. tourists arrived in Mexico by air, a 2.4% increase over the same period in 2024, reaffirming the U.S. as the top source market with 66.8% of total arrivals.
Meanwhile, Canada accounted for 15.3% of international visitors. From January to June 2025, 1.68 million Canadian travelers arrived in Mexico, an 11.8% increase over 2024 and 16.3% higher than in 2019.
