It’s no secret that Mexicans consume a lot of video games, but it’s also true that the Aztec land is an emerging market for developers who sometimes go unnoticed. The Game Conference MX (GCMX), taking place on October 17 and 18 in Guadalajara, aims to change this.
Abner Sable, founder and CEO of GCMX, shared in an interview with the Mexican Press Agency (MxPA) that Great Britain will participate as a special guest at this conference to establish a bridge between developers from both regions.
GCMX is not exclusive to Mexicans; it also aims to be a regional benchmark for all developers in the Americas to have a place to discuss video game creation “at the highest level.”
Peru, Canada, the United States, Brazil, and Uruguay are the countries confirmed to participate in the event so far.
The GCMX organizer also took the opportunity to announce the “Indie Spot: Champion of the People” awards, which is “an awards ceremony, an event dedicated to the developers who present at the Game Conference, and basically the audience decides which game wins the People’s Champion.”
Unlike other video game events, GCMX’s primary goal is for developers to create sustainable, independent businesses.
Abner also shared with MxPA that he and the conference team are proud that specialized international magazines have recognized GCMX as a reference, and commented, “This allows developers in Mexico to gain a foothold in the world, since the international community compiles its annual calendar of activities in these pages.”
