Sergio Maya, originally from Hidalgo, earned his place in the grand finale of the binational contest Mexico Sings for Peace and Against Addictions after the young talent won over the jury during the sixth and last semifinal, held on September 21 at the Churubusco Studios in Mexico City.

At just 21 years old, Maya already has nearly a decade of experience across various artistic disciplines under his belt. He is a composer, theater and dubbing actor, as well as a performer of Mexican music. It was thanks to his interpretation of the song “Quiero soñar” (I Want to Dream) that he secured a spot among the contest’s finalists.

Following the regional rounds in Mexico and the United States, Sergio Maya now joins Blue Malboro – Eastern Region of the U.S.; Carolina Imperial and William Zepeda (tie) – Central Region of the U.S.; Asália and Norma (duo) – Western Region of the U.S.; Galia Siurob – Northern Mexico; and Carmen María González – Central Mexico.

The contest, which promotes peace and seeks to raise awareness about addiction prevention through music, will come to a close on October 5 at the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris, where the finalists will compete for first place.

This binational event has brought together emerging voices from Mexico and the United States with the shared purpose of demonstrating the power of art as a tool for social transformation.
