Air travel in Mexico reached a new record in 2025, transporting more than 82 million passengers on domestic and international flights between January and August, according to figures from the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC).
Tourism Minister Josefina Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that this growth consolidates Mexico as one of the main air connectivity hubs in the region, reflecting travelers’ confidence in the country.
“The growth in air travel reflects the trust and security of travelers in Mexico, as well as the strength of our connectivity. We will continue working so that more people discover and enjoy the richness of our country’s tourism, thereby boosting the economy and the well-being of communities,” she said.
According to AFAC data, 42.16 million passengers were transported on domestic regular flights during the first eight months of the year, representing a 3.6% increase compared to the 40.69 million recorded in the same period of 2024.
In the international market, 40.22 million passengers were registered, a 1.7% rise over 2024, when 39.56 million people were transported.
Rodríguez Zamora underscored the performance of Mexican airlines in the international market. Between January and August, Aeroméxico and Volaris transported 9.47 million passengers, a 4.6% increase compared to the previous year.
On domestic flights, Viva Aerobus and Volaris carried the highest passenger volumes, with a total of 30.92 million users, representing a 7.4% increase compared to 2024.
Meanwhile, the U.S. airlines with the largest passenger flow on international flights to and from Mexico were American Airlines and United Airlines, which together totaled 9.09 million passengers.
The head of Sectur emphasized that these results not only highlight the strength and dynamism of Mexico’s airline industry but also the coordinated work between the government and the private sector to promote connectivity, tourism, and the country’s competitiveness.
With more than 82 million passengers transported in just eight months, Mexico reaffirms its role as a key hub for tourism and air travel in Latin America, while strengthening economic growth and job creation in the sector.
