Mexico welcomed 71 million visitors between January and September 2025, a 13.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the country’s Minister of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

“The results we present today forecast a record high in tourism in 2026 in Mexico, a year that, boosted by the World Cup, FITUR, and other international promotional efforts, will consolidate our nation as a global tourism and cultural powerhouse,” said Rodríguez Zamora.

She reported that foreign exchange earnings from international visitors reached 25.78 billion dollars, a 6.2% increase over the previous year. According to the International Travelers Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), 34.7 million international tourists entered Mexico during the first nine months of the year — 6.4% more than in 2024.

Rodríguez Zamora also noted that the average spending of air travelers was $1,242.60 USD, a 6.1% rise from 2024 and a 21.4% increase compared to 2019. “Tourism activity continues to grow steadily, and all indicators suggest that 2025 will close as a record year,” she added.

In September 2025 alone, Mexico recorded 7.28 million international arrivals, a 16% increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

Rodríguez Zamora noted that the winter season, which began in October, is expected to drive a significant surge in visitors, particularly from the United States and Canada — key markets for the country.

In relation to maritime tourism, the Minister reported that 8 million cruise passengers arrived at Mexican ports during the first nine months of the year, a 10.6% increase compared to 2024 and 23.4% higher than in 2019.
Foreign exchange earnings from cruise tourism totaled $668.90 million USD, an 11.6% rise from the previous year and 51.1% above pre-pandemic levels.

“Tourism is a driver of shared prosperity, promoting social development, strengthening local economies, and contributing to community well-being. It generates opportunities that translate into a better quality of life for more Mexican families,” Rodríguez Zamora concluded.
