Mexico received 15.96 million international air tourists between January and September 2025, reported Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora. The figure represents an increase of 0.6% compared to the same period in 2024 and exceeds 2019 levels by 9.7%, reaffirming the strength of the tourism sector.
Rodríguez Zamora noted that Canada has become one of the most dynamic markets, as almost 1.94 million Canadian visitors arrived in nine months, a 11.3% increase compared to last year and 16.8% above 2019 levels.
“Canadian tourism continues to strengthen its presence in our country and demonstrates the confidence it has in Mexico as a safe, diverse, and high-quality destination,” she said.
The United States remained the largest source market with over 10.20 million tourists, a 0.7% increase compared to 2024 and 26.1% more than before the pandemic. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom contributed 327,848 travelers, a 2.1% increase.
The profile of visitors also displayed important changes, as 52.9% of tourists arriving by air are between 30 and 59 years old, a group that includes travelers with greater spending capacity and greater interest in cultural, culinary, and nature-based experiences.
The head of Sectur indicated that these results reflect the importance of deepening cooperation with major source markets and continuing to strengthen air connectivity and tourism promotion strategies.
In this sense, she added, international tourism remains a key engine for regional economies.
Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that the upcoming 2026 World Cup —and the actions announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum regarding infrastructure, connectivity, and strengthening of the tourism offer— will generate an additional boost that will allow the sector’s growth to continue in the coming years.
