Mexico’s tourism sector continues to gain ground as one of the most dynamic engines of the national economy.

During the third quarter of 2025, the number of workers employed in tourism-related activities reached almost 5 million, representing 9.3% of total employment in the country and confirming the sector’s sustained recovery following the impact of the pandemic.
“When we strengthen the tourism sector, we promote Shared Prosperity, because every new job creates opportunities, boosts local economies, and contributes to more equitable growth for everyone,” Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora said.
According to data from the National Occupation and Employment Survey (ENOE), released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), tourism employment grew an annual 1.8%. This represents an increase of 90,477 jobs over the same period in 2024.
On a quarterly basis, growth was also positive, with 3,838 additional jobs between July and September. The Minister noted that tourism activity maintains a constant upward trend, driven by market diversification, the recovery of international tourism, and the strengthening of community-based tourism.
In addition, the sector reported a significant achievement: tourism employment was 11.2% above its pre-pandemic level. This means that 504,668 more people work in tourism-related activities compared with the first quarter of 2020, before the health emergency affected the country and halted mobility worldwide.
“Tourism is one of the great engines of employment in Mexico and a constant source of well-being for thousands of families. These results reflect the strength of the sector and its contribution to national development, fully aligned with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s vision of promoting growth with justice and well-being for all,” Rodríguez Zamora emphasized.
She added that the federal government’s priority is to continue expanding job opportunities for women, young people, and communities that depend on tourism as their main activity, while reinforcing training, professionalization, and the creation of stable, quality jobs.
The sustained growth of tourism employment reinforces confidence in one of the strategic sectors of the national economy and confirms Mexico’s central role worldwide as a cultural, natural, and culinary destination.
