Acapulco seeks to maintain its position as a tourist stronghold in Mexico and is showing crucial signs of recovery after the heavy blow of Hurricane Otis in 2023, with the port reaching an 80.4% hotel occupancy rate over the recent long weekend.

This was reported by the Undersecretary of Tourism and Head of the Economic, Cultural and Social Reactivation of Acapulco, Sebastián Ramírez Mendoza, who stressed that the above “is an unequivocal sign that the recovery of this tourist destination is ongoing.”

The official said that the Golden Zone registered an overall occupancy rate of 89.2%, while the Diamond Zone reported an average of 68.4% and the Traditional Zone 62%.

He also revealed that, during the second long weekend of the year, and according to the state’s Ministry of Tourism headed by Simón Quiñones Orozco, during the March holidays there were upturns in hotel occupancy of up to 94% and 98% in Acapulco, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Taxco.

He also explained that the first two long holiday weekends of the year generated an economic impact of more than MXN 1.2 billion, with hotel occupancy above 80%.

“These results anticipate a promising Easter season for the tourist attractions of Acapulco,” said Quiñones Orozco.

Ramírez Mendoza mentioned that the Government of Mexico, headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, will continue actions to promote the total recovery of the port through the “Acapulco se Transforma Contigo” (Acapulco Transforms With You) program.

To this end, he reported that he recently held a meeting with businessmen and owners of Riviera Diamante Acapulco to present the progress of this program, specifically in the areas of urban services and water.

Similarly, the National Lottery, together with the state of Guerrero and the municipality of Acapulco, held Special Draw No. 297 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Quebrada and to recognize the generations of divers who continue to bring this spectacle to life.

The General Director of the National Lottery, Olivia Salomón, mentioned that, in an act of solidarity and support, the institution held this raffle to publicize the Quebrada, issueaing 2.4 million tickets, and traveling throughout the country with a message of resilience: “Today we are in this emblematic port because Acapulco does not give up. Because its people fight, rise up and resist. It is a warrior people,” he said.

The undersecretary of tourism added that, with the celebration of high-impact sporting, artistic, cultural and academic events, such as Spartan Acapulco 2025, the Pan American Softball Championship, the International Sand Sculpture Festival, the Balloon Parade as part of Children’s Day, and many more, Acapulco is confirmed as one of the favorite destinations for national and international travelers.
