Guerrero government calls for citizen participation to decide on rehabilitation works in Acapulco

The Mexican Government’s Underminister of Tourism, Sebastián Ramírez Mendoza, has announced that a call for citizen participation will be opened, names “We Listen and Decide Together,” regarding the work to be carried out in the Historic Bay of the port of Acapulco in the six corridors that will be rehabilitated.

“This is a very important, unprecedented process, but one that is very valuable so that we can, together, build the projects. We are going to strengthen the process so that it belongs to the residents and so that the tourists who come have a better public space,” he said.

The person in charge of the economic, cultural and social reactivation of Acapulco explained that work will begin with the Jardín del Puerto, Fuerte de San Diego-Zócalo and Zócalo-La Quebrada, for which informational sessions will be held on April 2, 3 and 4, and the public will be heard on April 8, 9 and 10, respectively, at 4:00 p.m.

At a press conference, Ramírez Mendoza announced that progress on the “Acapulco se Transforma Contigo” program will be reported on every week.

In turn, Lyndia Quiroz, General Director of the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur), highlighted 71 neighborhoods in Acapulco and 4 more in Coyuca that will receive maintenance according to the decree creating the Integrally Planned Center (CIP), where Fonatur will be responsible for maintenance.

Alan Aizpuru, Managing Director of Fonatur Infraestructura, announced that the urban services work that has been carried out jointly with the municipality of Acapulco will continue from March 1st. He emphasized that, thanks to this, 240 jobs have been created, 230 hectares of beach have been cleaned, as well as 7.1 hectares of green areas have been cleaned, 215 items of obsolete urban furniture have been removed, and 164 items of public lighting have been replaced.

Guerrero’s Secretary of Tourism, Simón Quiñones, thanked President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and the Government of Mexico for their support in reactivating the beautiful port of Acapulco.
