The president of the United States promoted the Mexican government’s national campaign against fentanyl consumption. This weekend, Donald Trump posted the English version of two official Mexican videos titled “Stay away from drugs” and “Fentanyl kills you” on his social network, Truth Social.
This campaign against Fentanyl aims to prevent the consumption of this drug among young people through education and information. It involves the participation of various government agencies that collaborate in the implementation of addiction prevention strategies. The pillars of this governmental media strategy to promote public health are two: prevention—managed by the Ministry of Public Education and the Ministry of Culture—and care—directed by the Health Sector.
This effort by the Mexican state promotes self-care, responsible decision-making, and knowledge about the harmful effects of this drug’s use, assesses the underlying socio-cultural causes of addiction, and promotes the “Línea de la Vida” (800 911 2000), a multi-channel service that provides public personalized care regarding issues associated with substance use and mental health.
Through media such as radio, television, billboards, and digital platforms, as well as activities in schools such as conferences, courses, and urban art on walls. The aim of this campaign, backed now by POTUS, is to disseminate scientific information that allows teenagers to make informed decisions and look after their well-being and that of their community.
