As part of the agreements established between Mexico and the United States on February 3, 2025, elements of the National Guard have begun deployment along the northern border to ensure security.

On the morning of February 4, 3,190 elements of the National Guard and the Mexican Army arrived at various border points. Of those, 990 were flown by air using military aircraft as follows: 270 agents from Campeche to Tijuana, Baja California; a Boeing 727 flying 360 personnel from Mérida, Yucatán, to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua; and another one carrying 360 guards from Cancún, Q. Roo, to Hermosillo, Sonora.

In addition, 2,200 troops arrived by land in key cities such as Piedras Negras, Coahuila; Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas; Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua; Tecate, Baja California; and San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora.

ith both aerial and ground deployments, a total of 5,890 troops were deployed this Tuesday, consolidating a comprehensive security operation in the area.

The deployment will continue during the coming days up to the number committed: 10,000. In the receiving cities, the military presence is already visible in strategic locations, and patrol operations are expected to intensify in the coming hours.

On Monday, February 3, the Secretariat of National Defense announced the arrival of 134 personnel to the state of Querétaro. Of these, 39 belong to the Mexican Army and 95 to the National Guard, intending to strengthen the security strategy and increase their presence in the state’s streets and public squares.

In the following days, federal authorities will continue to oversee the deployment and assess its effectiveness. The arrival of the first contingent deployed marks the fulfillment of Mexico’s commitments to the United States, aimed at curbing illegal migration and fentanyl trafficking, while the U.S. government has pledged to contain the flow of high-powered weapons into Mexican territory.
