Mexico is seeking to position itself as an inspiring destination for U.S. audiovisual productions, to strengthen its collaboration with the Californian film industry. To this end, a federal government delegation and Mexican film producers have made an initial familiarization trip to Hollywood.

The initiative, led by the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, is part of a broader strategy to promote Mexico as a competitive and reliable hub for audiovisual production, consolidated in the international entertainment industry and as favorable to foreign investment in the cultural and creative industries sector.

The program includes visits to Mexico City on April 8 and 9 and to Guadalajara, Jalisco, on April 10, to showcase the country’s competitive advantages in film and audiovisual production. It mainly offers the geographical diversity of locations, first-rate technical and operational infrastructure, and access to specialized talent.

The delegation will also participate in an interagency meeting with officials from various government departments, including the Interior, Finance, Security, Economy, Culture, and Tourism ministries, as well as the Mexican Institute of Cinematography. At this meeting, each institution will present its responsibilities for promoting strategic actions that favor greater production of audiovisual content in Mexico.

The relationship between Mexico and Hollywood dates to the beginnings of the film industry with figures such as the actress Dolores del Río, the film director Emilio “El Indio” Fernández, and the cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa. This trend has continued with the numerous Mexican talents in film directing, acting, production, and photography who have won both the Los Angeles Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the general public’s awards.

This effort aligns with the directives to Mexican diplomatic missions to promote “Plan Mexico”, which was presented by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo on April 3, while encouraging the promotion of Mexico’s economic, commercial, cultural, and tourism profile abroad.
