1.5 Tons of Methamphetamines Hidden in the Double Bottom of a Tractor-Trailer Seized at the Port of Mazatlán

• Navy personnel, in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense, the National Guard, the Federal Attorney General’s Office, and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection SSPC participated in the operation.

• The economic impact on organized crime exceeds 426 million pesos (US$23.18 million)

As a result of surveillance, inspection, and control operations at the Ferry Terminal of the Port of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, personnel from the Ministry of the Navy (Semar), in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense (Defensa), the National Guard (GN), the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), and the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR), seized a tractor-trailer attached to a container that transported packages of what is presumed to be methamphetamine hidden in a double bottom. The seized drugs weighed approximately 1.5 tons.

Personnel from the Naval Unit for Port Protection of Mazatlán, while inspecting the tractor-trailer using X-ray equipment and with the support of three canine teams, detected a double bottom where 494 packages and six bags containing a substance with the characteristics of methamphetamine were found, weighing approximately 1.5 tons.

The impounded drugs were turned over to the corresponding Public Prosecutor’s Office agent, who will open the case investigation file.

This seizure represents an economic impact on organized crime of 426,496,000 pesos (US$23.22 million). In addition, more than 1.5 million doses were prevented from reaching young people.

With these actions, the institutions of the Security Cabinet reaffirm their commitment to work in coordination to prevent illicit substances from reaching the streets.
