The Mexican Government, through the Ministry of Culture, announced this Friday the first eight semifinalists of the contest México Canta por la Paz y Contra las Adicciones (“Mexico Sings for Peace and Against Addictions”), who will compete in the East Region Semifinal in the United States on August 17.

This marks Phase 3 of the binational competition, whose grand finale will take place on October 5 at the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris in Mexico City.

During her morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to Mexicans living abroad, emphasizing that updates on the competition will be shared every Friday as part of the government’s efforts to promote cultural messages of peace and steer youth away from narratives that glorify violence.

“We will continue to share updates every Friday on support for Mexican men and women in the United States, both through consular services and through beautiful initiatives such as México Canta, cultural activities, and many other things related to their lives here and the connection they maintain with their families and with our country. We want that connection to be even stronger, and for them to feel that the Mexican Government is always with them,” the President said.
