As a result of security, inspection, and surveillance efforts on the country’s highways to prevent the transportation of illicit substances, in an operation led by personnel from the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the ministries of National Defense, the Navy, Security and Citizen Protection, and the National Guard, two individuals were arrested for transporting nearly 50 kilos of heroin on a passenger bus in Sonora.
Security agents at a checkpoint at kilometer 32 of Federal Highway 2 on the Santa Ana-Altar section inspected a passenger bus and noticed that its structure had been modified. They conducted a thorough search and found a hidden compartment containing 50 packages of drugs.
Seventeen packages wrapped in brown tape containing a substance with the characteristics of heroin, weighing approximately 16 kilograms, were found at the site, as well as 33 additional packages containing a mixture of heroin and fentanyl, weighing close to 32 kilograms.
As a result, the two drivers of the vehicle were arrested, informed of their rights, and, together with the seized items, were placed at the disposal of the corresponding public prosecutor’s office, which will determine their legal situation.
With these actions, the institutions of the Security Cabinet reaffirm their commitment to preventing illicit substances from reaching the streets.
