The hustle and bustle at Mexican airports shows no signs of slowing down. Between January and June of this year, more than 61 million passengers boarded domestic and international flights, marking a fresh boost for tourism and the country’s connectivity.
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), domestic flights transported 30.7 million passengers — a jump of 4.5% compared to 2024 and 20.1% compared to 2019. VivaAerobus and Volaris led the domestic market, transporting 22.4 million travelers, 8.2% more than last year.
The story is similar in international skies: 30.4 million passengers traveled between Mexico and the rest of the world, an increase of 1.7% over 2024 and 24.1% compared to 2019. Aeroméxico and Volaris topped the list among Mexican carriers with 6.8 million passengers, while American Airlines and United Airlines led from the U.S. side, also transporting 6.79 million.
“Each passenger transported represents an opportunity for economic growth, job creation, and well-being in tourist destinations. We will continue working to ensure that tourism is a true lever for transformation and a driver of Shared Prosperity for everyone,” said Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.
The figures confirm that air transportation in Mexico has not only recovered but is in full expansion — connecting more destinations, boosting tourism spending, and strengthening the country’s role as a key point on the global travel map.
