Andrea Becerra made history by becoming the first Mexican woman ever to win a world title in compound archery, putting the country’s archery at the very top of the international stage.
The archer from Jalisco obtained the gold medal after defeating El Salvador’s Sofía Paz in a thrilling final with a close score of 147-146, sealing her historic run at the 2025 World Archery Championships in Gwangju with a total of three medals.

In addition to her individual gold, Becerra also secured another gold medal in the team event alongside teammates Adriana Castillo and Mariana Bernal. She added a bronze in the mixed team competition with Sebastián García, proving her consistency and elite level across multiple categories.
“History for Mexico!” the World Archery Federation proclaimed, highlighting Becerra’s remarkable achievement and her emergence as an inspiration for a new generation of athletes.
The historic victory was broadcast live on Archery+, where fans were able to witness every moment of the final that crowned Becerra as the best in the world in her specialty.
With this victory, Andrea Becerra not only adds a world title to her career but also opens a new chapter in Mexican sports history, becoming the first woman from her country to reach the very top of the compound archery world.
