• The National Chamber of the Textile Industry thanks the Ministry of Economy for supporting the creation of formal jobs.

Textile companies in Mexico closed sales agreements worth $55 million today with national and U.S. buyers during the event “Connecting the Mexican Textile Industry with the World,” organized by the Ministry of Economy.

Minister Marcelo Ebrard made the announcement at the closing of the business meeting, which brought together more than 200 exporting companies from the Mexican textile industry, over 100 domestic and international buyers, and included more than 2,500 business meetings.

Ebrard emphasized that today’s event is part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry to protect and strengthen the national textile industry. He recalled that, to support the textile sector, the Ministry promoted a decree imposing tariffs on textiles from countries without free trade agreements with Mexico and conducted Operation Clean-Up against smuggling, piracy, and fraudulent use of the IMMEX program.

“Why are we doing all of this? To create more jobs, expand our production capacity, and defend our jobs, our companies, and those of our partners,” Ebrard explained.

The Minister said that the negotiations initiated during the event represent potential revenue of more than $8 billion annually for Mexico’s textile industry.

“This event demonstrates the potential of our industry when there is coordination between public and private sectors,” said Rafael Zaga, president of the National Chamber of the Textile Industry.

“We would like to thank the Ministry of Economy for creating a space for networking aimed at strengthening supply chains, promoting national content, and generating formal employment in Mexico,” Zaga added.

“This business meeting has been a success and truly sets the tone for many more, allowing us to increase national content and Mexican exports through this channel,” said Vidal Llerenas, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce and event organizer.

During the event, the Hecho en México (Made in Mexico) label was awarded to the following companies: Baby Creysi, Global Denim, Dichi, Flexico, Grupo Textil Providencia, and Manufacturas Kaltex.

The closing ceremony also featured Vanessa Troice of Global Denim and Gary Bravard of Adore Me.
