The Government of Mexico, through the National Lottery (Lotería Nacional), unveiled this Friday the Commemorative Ticket for the Grand Special Draw on September 15, a special edition dedicated to honoring the effort, resilience, and legacy of millions of Mexican men and women living in the United States.

“Today, we are not just presenting a draw. We are presenting an arm that reaches across borders. An act of justice, a memory that is honored,” declared Olivia Salomón, head of the National Lottery, during President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning press conference this Friday. It was also announced that the proceeds from the draw — estimated at 100 million pesos — will go toward supporting Mexican nationals abroad.

The ticket designs, known as cachitos, were created by illustrator Marisol Gandarilla and were inspired by the Himno Migrante (Migrant Anthem), composed by the Legado de Grandeza collective, which also performed a moving rendition at the event, highlighting lyrics such as:

“De donde soy no nos rajamos, cualquier tierra la trabajamos. Mi sacrificio jamás es en vano…”
(“Where I’m from, we never give up. We work any land. My sacrifice is never in vain…”)

A Tribute to History and the Present

During her remarks, Salomón reminded attendees that the National Lottery was established by a decree of President Benito Juárez on May 2, 1861, as the sole authorized lottery in the Republic, created to help fund the people’s army fighting against a foreign invasion. “For 255 years, the National Lottery has witnessed Mexico’s great transformations,” she emphasized.

As part of the ceremony, the traditional niños gritones (children who shout the winning numbers) led a cheer:

“¡México con M de migrantes, premio mayor!”
(“Mexico with an M for migrants — grand prize!”) — honoring those who, even from afar, remain an integral part of the nation.

The September 15 draw not only celebrates Mexican Independence Day, but also serves to recognize and thank those abroad whose labor, dedication, and love for Mexico continue to shape the country’s story.
