IMSS and Defense sign agreement for construction of seven hospitals

The director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, emphasized that MXN 25 billion would be invested in the construction of seven hospitals, which would benefit almost 3 million people.

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the Ministry of National Defense (Defense) signed a collaboration agreement for the construction of seven new hospitals in Mexico.

Zoé Robledo, General Director of the IMSS, specified that this represents an investment of MXN 25 billion, benefitting almost 3 million people.

“With all this investment made under the agreement, almost 3 million people with IMSS benefits are going to be served in different aspects of medical care […] Also in specialties that are not currently available in these states and which often result in transfers to the national medical centers in Mexico City,” he said.

The official specified that the executive project for three of the seven hospitals has already been delivered to the Ministry of Defense. The first to begin construction are:

• Santa Catarina Regional General Hospital, in Nuevo León. It will serve 299,000 people and will have 39 medical specialties.

• San Luis Río Colorado Area General Hospital, in Sonora. It will serve 134,000 people and will have 28 specialties.

• Yecapixtla Regional General Hospital, in Morelos, to serve 116,000 people with state healthcare; it will have 28 specialties.

Zoé Robledo reported that construction will also begin on the other four hospitals in 2025, which are:

• Regional General Hospital of Saltillo, Coahuila. It will serve 736,000 people with access to 34 medical specialties.

• Los Cabos Area General Hospital, in Baja California Sur. 414,000 people with health insurance will benefit, with access to 44 specialties.

• Regional General Hospital of Culiacán, Sinaloa. It will have 37 medical specialties and serve 862,000 people.

• Regional General Hospital of Guadalupe, Zacatecas. This building will serve 319,000 people with access to 42 specialties.

The Minister of Defense, General Ricardo Trevilla, highlighted the participation of military engineers in the construction of these seven new medical units.

“Everything that is done is for the benefit of the people of Mexico. We are pleased to now participate in projects that contribute to the growth of the country, of course, without neglecting the issue of security,” he said.
