Between January and November 2025, a total of 19.5 million people visited museums and archaeological sites across Mexico, according to the country’s Tourism Minister, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

“The increase in visitors at museums and archaeological sites confirms that culture is one of the major drivers of tourism in Mexico, in addition to being a key tool for regional development, the generation of well-being, and the strengthening of our identity,” Rodríguez Zamora said.

Figures from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) show that Mexico’s archaeological sites received 9.0 million visitors during the first 11 months of the year, a 3.2% increase compared with the same period in 2024. Of that total, 63% were domestic visitors and 37% were international tourists.

The most visited archaeological sites during the period were Chichén Itzá, with 2.0 million visitors; Teotihuacán, including its on-site museum, with 1.6 million visitors; and Tulum, which received 980,000 visitors.

Museums nationwide recorded 10.5 million visitors from January to November 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 16.0% compared with the same period in 2024. Domestic tourism accounted for 89% of museum visits, while international visitors represented 11%.

Rodríguez Zamora noted that the most visited museums during the first 11 months of the year were the National Museum of Anthropology, which accounted for 43% of total visits; the National Museum of History, with 23%; and the Templo Mayor Museum, with 4%.

The Tourism Minister said the results reflect growing interest among domestic and international visitors in Mexico’s cultural heritage, recognized worldwide for its diversity, historical value, and ancestral legacy, reinforcing the country’s position as a leading cultural and tourism destination.
