Monterrey is ready to shine like never before. On October 4–5, 2025, the Lewis Hall at Fundidora Park will host DesertCon 2025, the largest convention in northern Mexico dedicated to anime, comics, and pop culture. The event is expected to gather more than 30,000 aficionados for a celebration packed with creativity, nostalgia, and international stars.
This year’s guest lineup includes big names such as Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle), Tom Welling (Smallville), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), as well as legendary voice actors like Cristina Hernández, Gerardo Reyero, and Uraz Huerta. Rising cosplay stars such as Pam vs The World will also join the festivities.
The program will feature panels, autograph signings, cosplay contests and catwalks, karaoke, an exclusive commercial area, and even a raffle for a trip to Japan, making DesertCon a must-attend event for fans of all ages.
At the official presentation, Marcela Camacho Lozano, General Director of Tourism Product Innovation at Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism, emphasized that events like DesertCon not only attract visitors but also boost the local economy and strengthen Monterrey’s position as a hub for cultural and entertainment tourism.
“Tourism is one of Mexico’s most important economic activities today. Conventions like DesertCon create unique experiences that resonate with new generations while supporting hotels, restaurants, and local businesses,” Camacho said.
Eduardo Dena, head of Tourism Strategy and Promotion in Nuevo León, described Monterrey as “the city of events”, with a diverse array of attractions that combines business, nature, adventure, and now pop culture.
DesertCon founder César Valenzuela recalled that the convention began in Hermosillo, Sonora, and has now expanded to Nuevo León thanks to its growing success.
“The reception in Monterrey has been amazing. We are thrilled to bring a lineup that blends international stars with Mexican voice actors and cosplayers. Our goal is to make DesertCon an unforgettable experience for the entire community,” he said.
With this new edition, DesertCon reaffirms its mission of showcasing how pop culture and tourism go hand in hand, positioning Monterrey as the epicenter of geek entertainment in Mexico.
