Divers from La Quebrada, in the renowned port city of Acapulco, Guerrero, have been awarded a Guinness World Record for performing the highest head-first dive in the world—a feat celebrated by Mexico’s Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora and state Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda.

“Today, we celebrate much more than a record—we celebrate the strength of a tradition that endures, the bravery of a group that inspires, and the pride of a beloved destination that never gives up. This achievement is yet another reason to visit Acapulco,” said Rodríguez Zamora.

The Minister of Tourism emphasized that this international recognition reaffirms Acapulco’s status as a unique destination because of its history, culture, and resilience.

Speaking from the iconic site in Acapulco, she noted that the La Quebrada divers have turned vertigo into art, diving from heights of 35 meters (115 feet) and reaching speeds of 90 kilometers per hour (56 mph). “They’ve created a collective legend that is now immortalized before the world,” she said.

She added that La Quebrada will now serve as the starting point for a national tourism route with sites marked by achieved world records, which will promote tourism throughout Mexico. These sites, she noted, are powerful attractions for both domestic and international travelers seeking unique and thrilling experiences.

Rodríguez Zamora also praised the resilience of the port city and expressed optimism for Acapulco during this Holy Week holiday period, highlighting signs of recovery.

“It is estimated that over 189,000 tourists will arrive in Acapulco, with a hotel occupancy rate of 88.3% and an economic impact of more than 4 billion pesos (US$200 million), a 57.5% increase compared to last year,” she said.
