Mexican tourism reached a new milestone on Monday, August 25, with the inauguration of the first flight of Mexicana’s EMBRAER E-195 aircraft, which departed from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) bound for Tulum International Airport.

The ceremony was led by Mexico’s Minister of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, and Mexicana’s CEO, Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, who emphasized that this development marks a new stage of growth and consolidation for the airline.

Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that the addition of this aircraft expands Mexicana’s ability to connect Mexico with its most emblematic destinations.

“When you fly with Mexicana, you feel Mexico from the moment you board. The arrival of the EMBRAER E-195 not only expands our fleet, it also strengthens connectivity to destinations that are true world treasures. Mexico is in fashion, and we will continue breaking tourism records,” she said.

The official also recalled President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s words, noting that Mexicana “is a clear message that Mexico wants to fly high, but with its feet on the ground, with direction, with justice, and with national pride.”

The airline currently operates 14 active routes and has posted a 17% increase in passengers compared to the same period in 2024. Rodríguez Zamora added that Mexicana offers travelers an experience that reflects the country’s cultural identity, with crew uniforms made from textiles that represent Mexican traditions.

This boost in connectivity coincides with the sustained growth of the AIFA, which transported more than three million passengers between January and June 2025, consolidating the airport as a key hub for international tourism.

vila Bojórquez stressed that the arrival of the EMBRAER E-195 represents a technological leap for Mexicana.
“With this next-generation aircraft, a new era for national aviation begins. We reaffirm our commitment to innovation, quality, and warmth, offering exceptional and safe service that drives the economic development of each region and generates shared prosperity,” he affirmed.

The executive also underscored that the airline will continue guaranteeing fair and affordable prices, while inviting travelers to take advantage of weekly promotions available through Mexicana’s official app and platforms such as Expedia.

The Secretary of Tourism of Hidalgo, Elizabeth Quintanar Gómez, attended the event and agreed that this step further strengthens Mexico’s position as a competitive destination on the international stage.

Finally, Rodríguez Zamora reiterated her invitation to both domestic and international travelers to experience flying with Mexicana: “The EMBRAER E-195 is a symbol of innovation and of the new stage of Mexican tourism: a tourism that generates shared prosperity and projects the cultural greatness of our country on every flight.”
