President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo declared during her First State of the Union Address that Mexico has strengthened its relationship of mutual respect with the United States and now stands as the country with the lowest average tariff rates globally.

“Mexico is respected around the world. It is known that our people are noble, generous, and brave, and that we are living a stellar moment in our history,” said the president, emphasizing the strengthening of bilateral cooperation and the diversification of exports within the framework of the USMCA and other international agreements.

Sheinbaum announced that on September 3 she will host U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to finalize a bilateral security agreement based on “shared responsibility, mutual trust, respect for sovereignty, and cooperation without subordination.”

The president also highlighted upcoming high-level diplomatic visits this month, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as the formalization of a new trade agreement with the European Union.

Support for Migrants
On migration policy, Sheinbaum underscored the “Mexico Embraces You” program, through which more than 86,000 deported individuals from the United States have received assistance. Support measures include enrollment in Mexico’s social security system (IMSS), access to housing, employment, transportation, hot meals, temporary shelter, and legal aid.

“So that migrants feel accompanied by their government. They know that we consider them heroes and heroines of Mexico,” she stated.

Economic Growth
Despite what she described as “catastrophic forecasts,” Sheinbaum reported that Mexico’s economy is showing an estimated growth of 1.2 percent, which she attributed to international confidence in the country and the stability achieved during her administration.

With a speech centered on international respect and social justice, Sheinbaum marks her first year in office by presenting Mexico as a nation seeking a greater global role while protecting its citizens both at home and abroad.
