In January 2025, foreign currency income from international visitors was USD 3.3467 billion, 6.5% more than the same month in 2024 and 46.2% more than in 2019.
This was reported by Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism (Sectur), Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, who highlighted that according to the results of the International Traveler Surveys published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), during the first month of 2025, 8 million international visitors arrived in the country, 18.6% more than in January of the previous year.
She explained that the sustained increase in the number of visitors and the income generated encourages job creation, promotes the development of tourism infrastructure, and enriches the cultural exchange between Mexicans and international visitors.
Zamora added that Mexico remains a global destination through its diverse offerings and hospitality, promoting the well-being of its communities and boosting sustainable development.
Additionally, Zamora reported that in the first 31 days of 2025, foreign currency income from international tourists was USD 3,073.9 million, 4.6% more than in 2024 and 46.7% more than in 2019.
She pointed out that during January 2025, 3.9 million international tourists entered the country, which represents increases of 8.5% and 13.4% compared to the same periods in 2024 and 2019, respectively.
Similarly, she explained that in the first month of 2025, 2.1 million tourists arrived in Mexico by air, with an average expenditure of USD 1,306.80, 3.6% more than in 2024, and 21.6% more than the average expenditure recorded in the same period in 2019.
She specified that in January 2025, the balance for international visitors was USD 2.265 billion, 66.6% more than the balance recorded for the same period in 2019.
Comparatively, she said that in the first month of 2025, 1.2 million cruise passengers arrived at various ports, 9.8% more than in 2024 and 19.2% more than in 2019. Likewise, foreign exchange earnings from cruise passengers amounted to USD 99.1 million, 12% more compared to 2024 and 49% more than what was collected for the same period in 2019.
