The Game Conference MX (GCMX) was born out of the need for developers to have an event to discuss video games at the highest level. Unlike other conventions, this one, taking place on October 17 and 18 in Guadalajara, is not only dedicated exclusively to video games, but is also a unique venue for developers to discuss the technical aspects of creating these digital products, including design, art, composition, user interfaces, business development, legal issues, and all the most specialized topics in the industry.

Abner Sable, video game producer and director of the GCMX, commented in an interview with Mexican Press Agency (MxPA) that this conference fulfills the need for a convention in an accessible, Spanish-speaking country, since Gamescom Latam (the Latin American video game conference) is held in Brazil.

At the same time, the largest video game conference in the continent, the GDC (Game Developers Conference), is taking place in San Francisco, California, and the political climate (in addition to the language) makes it more difficult for Latin American developers to attend.

These types of spaces are essential to strengthening the digital industry in Mexico and Latin America. The GCMX organizer also emphasized the importance of holding money discussions, because the only way for Mexican studios to grow is if they manage to make more than one game and not disappear in the process.

Abner also told us that: “What makes the Game Conference special this year is that no other event in Mexico has brought together so many independent studios.”

This year, 40 games are planned for display, far more than any other event in the country.

GCMX isn’t just for developers; its organizer also noted that many of last year’s event attendees were students looking to enter the industry.

It’s also a meeting point for starting projects or looking for work in the industry, although Abner acknowledged that many Mexican companies are lacking the capacity to meet the demand of young people studying video game-related careers.
