The Mexican President emphasized that as part of the National Security Strategy, from September 2024 to February 2025, a 15% decrease in intentional homicides has been achieved, in addition to arrests and seizures of various types of drugs.
“It is important to highlight the 15% decrease in intentional homicides, from September 2024 to February 2025, a 15% decrease. Of course, there have been the arrests and seizures of narcotics, drugs, particularly fentanyl, which is part of what we have done, what we are doing out of conviction, and also because of the agreement with the United States,” he said.
Sheinbaum pointed out that as part of the Northern Border Operation, 266,000 fentanyl pills were seized as a result of the coordinated work between the agencies in charge of security.
“Yesterday alone, 266,000 fentanyl pills were seized in Sinaloa, which is also part of the border operation, although Sinaloa is not a border state, but obviously work there is coordinated, the seizures and the permanent work that has been carried out with the Federal Attorney General’s Office and with the states,” she said.
The President also highlighted that as part of the security actions, more than 7,300 weapons have been confiscated, while with the program “Yes to disarmament, Yes to peace”, 700 weapons have been voluntarily surrendered, which means that around 10% of what has been seized has been destroyed.
“It means that the program works and helps reduce violence,” she added.
Sheinbaum also noted that Guanajuato has been the only state that has shown a significant increase in violence, which is why she announced that she will meet with the governor to give impetus to the work of coordination.
“Guanajuato has posted a very significant increase (in violence) from October to date and we are going to sit down to coordinate efforts, because this is not a political issue, it is a coordination issue and I hope that this coordination can be carried out so that this level of violence that is present today in Guanajuato can be reduced,” she continued.
