Security Cabinet Reports 32% Decrease in Intentional Homicides

The Mexican Government Security Cabinet reports that, based on figures consolidated as of August 31:

  • There has been a 32 percent decrease in intentional homicides compared to September 2024, meaning that 27 fewer homicides were registered in August. This makes August 2025 the lowest August since 2015 for this crime.

Minister of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch reported that in the past two weeks:

  • 1,600 suspects have been arrested
  • 552 firearms were confiscated
  • More than 5 tons of drugs were impounded
  • 53 drug labs and storage facilities containing inputs used in drug production were dismantled

From October 1 to September 8:

  • 31,400 suspects have been arrested
  • 16,048 firearms were confiscated
  • 245 tons of drugs were impounded
  • 1,408 drug labs and storage facilities containing inputs used in drug production were dismantled
