International tourism in Mexico is booming. From January to May 2025, the country welcomed 39.4 million international visitors, representing a 14.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to Secretary of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

This massive influx of tourists also had a strong economic impact. In the first five months of the year, revenue from international visitors reached $15.93 billion USD, a 6.4% increase compared to 2024 and 43.8% higher than the same period in 2019, before the pandemic.

“Tourism in Mexico is a window for the world to discover our cultural, natural, and human wealth. These results show that we continue to strengthen our position as a dynamic and competitive destination,” said Rodríguez Zamora.

In May 2025 alone, 7.9 million visitors arrived in the country—an 18% increase compared to May 2024. Of these, 3.7 million were overnight tourists, while 4.1 million were day-trippers. That month generated $2.62 billion USD in revenue, 6.3% more than the previous year.

Between January and May, Mexico welcomed 19.4 million international tourists, up 6.8% from 2024 and 6.6% from 2019. These tourists spent $14.62 billion USD, a 5.2% increase compared to the previous year and 44.4% more than in 2019.
A total of 10.2 million international tourists arrived by air, with an average expenditure of $1,300.50 USD per person—6.8% more than in 2024 and 24.7% higher than in 2019.

Cruise tourism also showed a strong recovery: five million passengers arrived by cruise ship, up 10% compared to last year and 19.5% compared to 2019. These travelers generated $427.7 million USD in revenue, 12% more than in 2024 and 48.4% more than in 2019.

The Secretariat of Tourism emphasized that these figures reflect the federal government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism sector and promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism that benefits more Mexican communities.
