Mexico Posts 7.3% Increase in International Tourist Arrivals in First Half of 2025

Mexico’s Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora announced that between January and June 2025, the country welcomed 23.4 million international tourists, a figure 7.3% higher than in the same period of 2024 and 6.2% above 2019 levels.

“Tourism continues to grow and strengthen its contribution to the national economy, thanks to coordinated work with the private sector and all levels of government. We are working under President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s administration to ensure that these benefits translate into well-being for local communities, promoting community tourism as a tool for inclusive development,” Rodríguez Zamora said.

Sustained growth and record figures

Between January and June 2025, foreign exchange earnings from international visitors reached $18.68 billion USD, a 6.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024 and 43.1% more than in 2019.

In the same timeframe, 47.4 million international visitors entered the country, a 13.8% rise over 2024.

Foreign exchange earnings specifically from international tourists totaled $17.12 billion USD, 5.2% higher than in 2024 and 43.5% above 2019. The average spending of air-arrival international tourists reached $1,280.7 USD, up 6.9% from the previous year and 25.4% more than in 2019.

Maritime tourism on the rise

In the cruise sector, Mexico received 5.7 million passengers, 9.6% more than in 2024 and 20.8% higher than in 2019. Earnings from cruise excursionists reached $484.2 million USD, an increase of 11.3% over 2024 and 49.4% more than in the same period of 2019.

Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that in June 2025 alone, the number of international tourists grew 10% compared to June 2024, increasing from 3.69 million to 4.07 million visitors. This growth consolidates Mexico’s position as one of the most competitive and attractive destinations worldwide, reflecting international travelers’ confidence in the country’s tourist attractions and services.
