The case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Salvadoran man deported by mistake from United States to his country of origin, charged that he was tortured in the maximum security prison where he was held. The abuse ranged from severe beatings to psychological torture.

Abrego also said that he was deprived of sleep and food, and he lost 14 kilos in two weeks.

This is the first time that Abrego is detailing the circumstances of his arrest to avoid being deported again.

It was in March of this year that, despite having an order from a U.S. judge protecting him from being deported, Abrego was sent to El Salvador along with a group of Salvadoran and Venezuelan migrants.

Ábrego is currently being detained in Tennessee while his legal status is being defined, due to accusations of human trafficking from Donald Trump’s government.

On Thursday, a Tennessee judge banned officials from the Trump administration, including those from the Department of Justice and Homeland Security, to comment publicly on the case.
