The state of Colima is set to shine on the international stage with the Manzanillo Open 2025, an international tennis tournament that reaffirms the port city as a destination of hospitality, growth, and excellence.
Supported by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the event will take place from November 10 to 15 at Cedartenis Las Hadas By Brisas in Manzanillo, Colima.
During the official presentation held at the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), officials emphasized that this tournament strengthens both Colima’s sports and tourism promotion, consolidating the state as a benchmark for sports tourism in Mexico.
Representing Mexico’s Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Giovan Alexander Jiménez Ramírez, Director of Regulatory Facilitation and Quality, underscored that sports-related tourism is “a powerful tool to generate Shared Prosperity, by stimulating the local economy, strengthening social bonds, and showcasing the destination to the world.”
“Events like this remind us that tourism is much more than an economic activity—it is an experience that connects, transforms, and leaves a lasting impact,” he said.
Jiménez Ramírez noted that the tournament symbolizes a joint effort between authorities, the population, and the tourism sector to strengthen Colima’s identity and position it as a key player in Mexico’s sports tourism industry.
“We are certain that the Manzanillo Open 2025 will be a resounding success—a meeting point for talent, passion, and the vision of a united Mexico, full of energy and pride for what we are and what we build together,” he added.
The Manzanillo Open 2025 will feature more than 80 players from 20 countries, including 32 in the main draw, 48 in qualifiers, and 16 doubles teams. The tournament will be officially streamed through the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) channel, reaching audiences in over 120 countries.
Endorsed by the Mexican Tennis Federation and the Colima Tennis Association, the event is expected to generate an economic impact exceeding 10 million pesos, primarily from lodging, dining, and tourism services—directly benefiting local communities and businesses.
During the presentation, Jorge Padilla Castillo, Deputy Director of Tourism for the Government of Colima, explained that the Manzanillo Open 2025 is part of a comprehensive strategy led by Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva, focused on sports as an engine for economic development and tourism promotion.
Padilla Castillo noted that Colima has diversified its tourism offerings through running events, fishing tournaments, and surf competitions, now expanding into tennis with the Manzanillo Open 2025.
“More than 40,000 Colima families depend directly on the tourism sector. Every event of this magnitude represents well-being for our people and contributes to the economic growth of our communities,” he emphasized.
Padilla highlighted that the tournament’s venue—the iconic Las Hadas Hotel, a landmark of Mexican tourism—embodies Colima’s hospitality and history.
“The setting is perfect: a destination with solid infrastructure, natural beauty, and the warmth that distinguishes Colima as a host of excellence,” he said.
Meanwhile, Carlos González López de Lara, President of the Mexican Tennis Federation, and Javier Gaytán Estrada, Tournament Director and President of the Mexican Association of Professional Tennis Players, both agreed that the event has become a platform for international projection of both Mexican tennis and the country’s tourism sector.
