March holiday weekend vacations will generate revenues of more than MXN 63 billion

The Mexican Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, shared that during the second long holiday weekend of 2025, tourism will generate an estimated MXN 63.485 billion; 2% more than what was registered in 2024. The holiday weekend coincides with the commemoration of the birth of Benito Juárez.

Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that 3,935,000 tourists are expected to stay in the country’s tourist destinations, which represents an increase of 1% compared to the same period in 2024.

She added that during this long weekend, which runs from March 14 to 17, an average occupancy rate of 71.4% is expected nationwide, which represents a 0.6% increase from the same period in 2024.

She further specified that an estimated 1,771,000 tourists will stay in hotels during this long weekend, 0.8% more than in 2024, of which 1,272,000 will be domestic tourists, accounting for 71.8% of total visitors and 499,000 foreign tourists.

She also said that 1,957,000 domestic tourists will choose to stay with family and friends, as well as second homes, while 207,000 foreign tourists will stay in shared economy lodging.

She estimates revenue of MXN 4.172 billion from lodging over the weekend.

Rodríguez Zamora indicated that the estimated occupancy rate in some of the country’s main tourist destinations will be: 92.0% in Nuevo Nayarit; 90.7% in Riviera Maya; 87.5% in Cancun; 86.7% in Los Cabos; 86.1% in Puerto Vallarta; 83.5% in Bahias de Huatulco; 82% in La Paz; 79.6% in Queretaro; 79.2% in Monterrey; 78.8% in Tecate; 75.7% in Merida.

Rodríguez Zamora also shared that according to Booking.com data, Acapulco is the most sought-after tourist destination for the long weekend, showing a 103% growth in the last week, followed by Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City, and Cancun.

She also emphasized that searches for domestic destinations have increased significantly on the website, reflecting the growing interest of Mexicans in getting to know their country and enjoying new experiences. 

Rodríguez Zamora reiterated that Mexico “is more than sun and beach, it has a unique natural and cultural wealth, as well as beautiful traditions and an ancient legacy that strengthens our identity and national pride.”

She also stressed the importance of promoting domestic tourism, as it has an impact on the domestic economy, and this dynamism contributes to creating jobs and increasing economic revenue.
