The Minister of Tourism of the Mexican Government, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, and her counterpart from Guerrero, Simón Quiñonez Orozco, presented the Mariachi Summit and the official Guinness World Record certification to the professional divers of La Quebrada for the highest head dive in the world.

At a press conference, Rodríguez Zamora shared that “having the Mariachi Summit is another phenomenon of Mexican greatness–20 groups, all the dances we have and the cuisine”.

Prior to the Mariachi Summit, the official explained that the Guinness Record recognizes the value that the Acapulco divers have had for more than 90 years as a part of state and country history.

“Having a Guinness Record means putting it in a book; it is a benchmark for the world, and that nobody is better than the Acapulco divers from La Quebrada,” she emphasized.

As part of the drive to revive the port, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) announced that the Mariachi Summit will take place from April 17 to 19, an event that will bring together more than 20 renowned musical groups, folk ballet dances from Mexico, a great display of Guerrero and national cuisine, as well as a craft bazaar with more than 50 craftsman.

He invited tourists from Mexico and the world to be part of this music festival, which not only celebrates the emblematic mariachi, but is also part of the Mexican identity, which will feature the participation of renowned performers such as Rosy Arango, Fernando de la Mora and Pepe Aguilar, with the aim of enhancing this important tradition and Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

He also announced that on April 15, “we will experience a moment of national pride with the certification of the Guinness Record for the divers of La Quebrada, a symbol of the country. The most important thing is to show the world diving as a social value and as an icon of the port for tourists for more than 90 years”.

To meet the requirements to be accredited by Guinness World Records, the divers will be performing the world’s highest head dive–diving from a height of 35 meters.

It is worth noting that within 3 seconds, their dives reach a speed of 90 km/h.

Ingrid Paola Rodríguez Borja, representative of Guinness World Records in Mexico, pointed out that “this record is not only an achievement for La Quebrada, it is also an achievement for the state of Guerrero and for Mexico. It means the destination is visible at an international level, strengthening the destination brand and the opportunity to invite tourists to enjoy unique and exciting experiences”.

In this sense, she pointed out that “this record is about highlighting Guerrero. It is about showing that Mexico can achieve great things.”

For his part, the Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, Simón Quiñones Orozco, pointed out that “these events reaffirm the commitment to the tourist development of Acapulco, generating an attractive opportunity with iconic traditions, as well as all the necessary conditions so that tourists can enjoy a truly pleasant stay.”

He also reiterated that the divers of La Quebrada represent the identity of the port and have strengthened its position as a destination where culture and traditions are lived with passion; he invited all tourists to enjoy this unparalleled experience.
