Everything is set for this Sunday, October 5, when the grand finale of “México Canta for Peace and Against Addictions” will take place—the first binational contest aimed at promoting culture and music as tools for social transformation.
After six weeks of eliminations, the finalists representing the six participating regions have been announced: Blue Malboro, Carolina Imperial and William Zepeda, Asália and Norma, Galia Siurob, Carmen María González, and Sergio Maya. They will face off on the stage of the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris in Mexico City, in an evening that promises emotion, talent, and social commitment.
During the preliminary rounds, the jury—made up of América Sierra, Regina Orozco, and Mónica Vélez—evaluated participants on aspects such as tuning, composition, and interpretation.
“I like to focus on what the artist conveys: that they connect, move people, make you feel goosebumps. It’s not always about perfection, but about what you transmit,” explained América Sierra, highlighting the essence of the competition.
In the final, in addition to the jury’s verdict, the audience will also play a decisive role. Through the website mexicocanta.gob.mx, viewers will be able to cast two votes: one for best performer and another for best composer.
The binational initiative, jointly organized by institutions in Mexico and the United States, has as its central goal the promotion of peace and the prevention of addictions among young people through music.
Organizers have emphasized that, beyond being a competition, the event aims to establish a lasting legacy as a long-term cultural program. “It should serve as a watershed moment to inspire new generations, promote music and culture in our country, and endure beyond administrations,” Sierra noted.
The grand finale will be broadcast through public media in Mexico this Sunday, October 5, at 7:00 p.m. Additionally, the stories and performances of each finalist will be available on México Canta’s social media platforms.
With this first edition, México Canta positions itself as a unique platform for cultural exchange between both countries, where music becomes a bridge of unity, hope, and social transformation.
