The Mexican Government reported a 32% decrease in intentional homicides between September 2024 and September 2025, making last month the lowest September in a decade for this crime, according to data from the Executive Ministry of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).

During the President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo morning press conference, Marcela Figueroa Franco, head of the SESNSP, reported that the average number of daily homicides dropped from 86.9 to 59.5, a reduction of 27 cases per day compared to the same month last year. She also noted that the annual average of intentional homicides from January to September 2025 stood at 67.4 per day, the lowest level recorded since 2016.According to SESNSP figures, seven states accounted for 51% of all intentional homicides in the first nine months of 2025:

• Guanajuato, 11.3%
• Chihuahua, 7.4%
• Baja California, 7.3%
• Sinaloa, 7.1%
• State of Mexico, 6.6%
• Guerrero, 5.8%
• Michoacán, 5.6%

In contrast, 23 states reduced their daily homicide averages, with the most significant decreases recorded in Zacatecas (-88%), Chiapas (-73%), Quintana Roo (-68%), Jalisco (-63%), Nuevo León (-61%), and San Luis Potosí (-53%).
Figueroa Franco also reported that the daily average of high-impact crimes fell by 46% compared to 2018, dropping from 969.4 to 524.4 cases per day.

Among the most notable decreases were:

• Armed vehicle theft, down 48% (from 209.9 to 108.9 cases).
• Armed cargo theft, down 55% (from 30.3 to 13.8 cases).

The official also noted that since the implementation of the National Anti-Extortion Strategy, there has been an 85% increase in reports to the 089 hotline, reaching 647 daily calls.

Between July 6 and September 28, authorities received 59,283 calls related to extortion attempts, of which:

• 74% involved unsuccessful attempts.
• 16% were reports of previously used phone numbers.
• 10% corresponded to completed extortions.

During that same period, 1,986 criminal investigations were opened.

According to SESNSP data, the following trends were recorded between January and September:
• Feminicide: -28.7%
• Firearm-related injuries: -28.3%
• Kidnapping for ransom: -68.9%
• Extortion: +20.8%
• Total armed robbery: -48.5%
• Home invasion robbery: -52%
• Vehicle theft with violence: -43.9%
• Cargo theft with violence: -51.1%
• Street robbery: -45.3%
• Business robbery: -56.6%

Figueroa Franco emphasized that these indicators show a consistent downward trend in violent crime and homicides, reflecting the results of the national security strategy.

“These figures reflect ongoing progress in the consolidation of peace and security across the country,” she said.
