Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, announced that in January 2025, a total of 1,963,000 foreign tourists arrived by air to Mexico based on their residence, marking an increase of 5.8% compared to the same month in 2024 and 20.1% more than in 2019.
According to data from the Migration Policy-Registry and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of Interior (Segob), foreign tourism is at a record high, with a 30% increase from 2019 and an 8.5% increase from last year. Tourists are primarily from the United States, Canada, Argentina, Columbia, and the United Kingdom, totalling 1,705,000 tourists traveling by air into Mexico just in the last three months.
The Secretary of Tourism added that the vast majority of foreign tourists who arrived in Mexico since January 2025 were primarily from the United States, totalling 1,186,000 United States tourists, representing an 8.5% increase compared to 2024 and 41.9% more compared to 2019.
She also specified that the number of air arrivals from Canadian residents in January 2025 was 414,919 tourists, an increase of 12.1% from January 2024 and 15.9% more than in 2019.
Similarly, 42,209 tourists from Argentina traveled to Mexico, a 31.7% increase compared to January 2024.
Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that the rise in international tourism not only boosts economic output but also serves as a key driver for the national economy, bringing well-being to Mexicans.
Additionally, she highlighted that this influx of tourists strengthens Mexico’s international image as an attractive destination for investment in tourism infrastructure, such as hotels, restaurants, and entertainment centers.
