More than 38,000 Mexicans have returned to Mexico from the United States through the National Repatriation Strategy “México te Abraza (Mexico Embraces You)”, Minister of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez reported.

“Thus far, since the program was launched on January 21, some 38,065 Mexican nationals have arrived,” she said.

During President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference, the head of the Interior Ministry (Segob) recalled that 10 Care Centers were established in the states of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, with the purpose of providing shelter and support for returning Mexican nationals.

“So far, no serious incidents have been reported in these facilities; we have had a clean slate in receiving our fellow citizens,” Rodriguez emphasized.

She noted that out of the more than 38,000 migrants repatriated from the United States, 14,305 have visited the Care Centers, where more than 129,000 services have been provided.

The services offered include:

  • 47,882 food rations
  • 5,992 medical consultations
  • 2,834 psychological consultations
  • 636 services for women
  • 20,577 enrollments in the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute)
  • 2,941 CURP (Single Population Registry Code) documents issued
  • 1,951 birth certificate issued
  • 649 services from the DIF (National Integral Family Development System)

Economic Support

The Interior Minister indicated that 9,379 returning migrants have received the “Paisano Card,” which includes a 2,000-peso stipend for travel expenses, and 5,711 have been enrolled in one of the Wellbeing Programs.

“Thanks to support from the Business Coordinating Council, over 1,500 people have been put in touch with decent employment opportunities. The Council offered 60,000 job openings for those repatriated, and we’re coordinating with the Ministry of Labor to ensure that these permanent job offers are available,” she emphasized.

In addition, 2,100 SIM cards from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) with free internet access have been distributed, and lodging has been provided to 12,273 individuals. The rest have opted to continue their journey without staying overnight in the Care Centers.

Finally, she reported that the National Migration Institute (INM) has facilitated the transportation of more than 2,000 returning Mexican nationals to their communities of origin.
