Mexico City.– The Mexican Navy reported that today a King Air ANX 1209 aircraft belonging to the Ministry of the Navy was carrying out a medical support mission as part of “Plan Marina” in coordination with the Michou y Mau Foundation, and suffered an accident during its approach near Galveston, Texas, United States.
The aircraft was on a humanitarian mission, providing specialized medical assistance, with eight people on board, four naval crew members and four civilians.
Following the incident, search and rescue protocols were immediately activated in coordination with the United States Coast Guard. Thus far six people have been recovered, four alive and two unfortunately confirmed dead. Efforts are continuing to rescue two others who are inside the wrecked aircraft.
As a result of the incident, the corresponding investigations will be carried out, assisting the relevant authorities to determine the causes of the accident. Coordination with the Mexican consulate in Houston is underway for the necessary paperwork procedures.
Mexico’s Ministry of the Secretariat reaffirms its commitment to the safety of its air operations, as well as to humanitarian assistance and support for the population, and emphasizes that all information will be communicated in a timely and transparent manner, as confirmed data becomes available.
