Mexico’s Minister of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, hailed the announcement of new national and international air routes during the 2025 Tianguis Turístico. Among these are seven new connections to cities in the United States, which will boost tourism activity across the country.
Low-cost airline Viva Aerobus unveiled 11 new national and international routes departing from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), seven of which will connect to U.S. destinations including Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Miami, and Orlando, starting in November.
In addition, the new domestic routes from AIFA will include Tepic and La Paz, to be launched in May, as well as Saltillo and Veracruz, which begin operating in November.
The Minister of Tourism also announced that Volaris will begin operating 18 new routes in June and July. These include three domestic connections from Morelia to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexicali, and Puerto Vallarta. The remaining 15 will be international routes connecting various Mexican cities with the United States, along with a new route to Costa Rica.
Meanwhile, Aeroméxico announced new flights between the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Punta Cana, Panama, Philadelphia, and Cali, as well as a new route between San Luis Potosí and Atlanta. With these additions, the airline will reach a total of 118 destinations.
Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that the airline expects to end the year with a fleet of 160 aircraft, a 12% increase compared to previous figures.
In addition, she announced that the Spanish airline Iberojet will operate a new direct flight between Querétaro, Mexico, and Madrid, Spain, starting in October. The route will offer two weekly flights, on Thursdays and Sundays.
She noted that this new connection will link the Bajío region in central Mexico with Europe and encourage European travelers to explore Querétaro’s tourist routes, such as the Wine Route and the Romance Route.
The Minister emphasized that connections in Mexico continue to grow, not only making it easier for domestic and international tourists to arrive but also enabling travelers to reach remote destinations and unique experiences more quickly and efficiently.
These 35 new air routes announced during the Tianguis Turístico clearly reflect this positive trend.
The federal official concluded by explaining that each new connection helps strengthen tourism by increasing the flow of visitors, diversifying tourism offerings across the country, and attracting new investments.
