President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that she will file a defamation lawsuit against Jeffrey Lichtman, the attorney representing Ovidio Guzmán, following remarks made about her administration.

Ovidio Guzmán is a former Mexican drug trafficker and former high-level leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. He is the son of drug kingpin “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera.

During the “People’s Morning Press Conference,” the President emphasized that the complaint will be filed in Mexico through the Legal Counsel’s Office, declaring that “this is something that cannot be overlooked.” Sheinbaum also clarified that she “will not engage in any dialogue with the lawyer of a drug trafficker.”

“We do our job and there is no collusion with anyone,” she stressed.

In recent days, Guzmán’s lawyer made public statements directed at the President, who had previously voiced her opposition to a deal between “El Chapo” Guzmán’s son and the U.S. justice system.

Sheinbaum called Lichtman’s comments “disrespectful” and dismissed as absurd the idea that the Mexican government was involved in the negotiations.

“There is no collusion.”

Regarding the case of General Salvador Cienfuegos, Sheinbaum said it is important for the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR) to clarify what occurred in that case.

“There must be clarity about what occurred—from the General’s arrest to his release—and how the FGR was involved,” she stated.

The President also highlighted results from the national security strategy, including the downward trend in intentional homicides: “There are results, and there will be more.”
