- From October 1, 2024, to July 16, 2025, nearly 1,500 suspects have been arrested and 53 tons of drugs have been seized in Sinaloa.
- 3,000 firearms were impounded, representing more than 20% of the total number of weapons seized nationwide.
- On instructions from President Claudia Sheinbaum, the Security Cabinet will visit the state every 15 days to evaluate the strategy’s implementation.
At a press conference in the municipality of Culiacán, Minister of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch highlighted that the reinforcement of public security in Sinaloa from October 1, 2024, to July 16, 2025, has resulted in the arrest of nearly 15,000 suspects, the seizure of more than 3,000 firearms and 53 tons of drugs, including more than a ton of fentanyl and a million fentanyl pills; and the dismantling of 91 methamphetamine labs.
“Restoring peace to the families of Sinaloa is a priority for this government. That is why every day thousands of women and men from the Ministry of National Defense, the Navy, the National Guard, the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, and the State Police, whose role we recognize, carry out operations with the aim of arresting those who generate violence,” said Minister Omar García Harfuch at Military Air Base No. 10.
He added that coordinated actions and the deployment of specialized teams have made it possible to gather intelligence and carry out investigation and surveillance tasks to dismantle criminal networks and conduct operations to arrest perpetrators of violence. He also explained that these tasks will be strengthened with the new National Investigation and Intelligence System Law.
Harfuch Garcia indicated that, on instructions from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the Security Cabinet will visit the state every 15 days to evaluate the implementation of the strategy.
He also reported on some recent actions, including the arrest of 10 suspects with high-caliber weapons, the arrest of 11 members of a criminal group in Navolato, and the dismantling of six clandestine drug labs, where 4,800 kg of methamphetamine were seized, in Culiacán.
The head of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) highlighted the strength and coordination of the Mexican Army in the operation carried out two years ago in Culiacán to arrest Ovidio “N,” one of the main leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel and a key operator in the trafficking of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
“Unfortunately, in these operations, 10 members of the Mexican Army lost their lives in the line of duty and an additional 35 were wounded. Their dedication and courage are a testament to the honor, discipline, and commitment of the Armed Forces to the safety of all Sinaloans,” he said.
In his speech, National Guard Commander Hernán Cortés explained that 3,267 members of the National Guard are deployed in the state of Sinaloa, where they carry out various tasks, including preventing vehicle theft and highway robberies.
He added that, due to the holiday season, the “Summer Vacation 2025” plan has been in operation since July 15, with the aim of providing security to all tourists visiting Sinaloa and to residents traveling to different tourist areas in the state. He also noted that the National Guard has publicized telephone number 089 to reduce the crime of extortion.
Also present at the press conference were Minister of National Defense, General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo; Minister of the Navy, Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales; commander of the National Guard, General Hernán Cortés Hernández; Secretary of Security of Sinaloa, General Óscar Rentería Schazarino; and the Commander of the Third Military Region, General Guillermo Briseño Lobera.
